Spinach Matador is a leafy, reliable spinach with tender green leaves and a mild flavour. It is great in salads when young, or wilted into pasta, curries, soups and omelettes. A useful crop for quick greens without too much fuss.

Grower tip: Spinach prefers cooler conditions. A little afternoon shade and regular watering can help stop it flowering too quickly in warm weather.
Spinach likes cool, moist conditions. Water regularly and avoid letting the soil dry out, especially in warm weather. Hot, dry conditions can make plants bolt, which means they flower and stopproducing good leaves.
Spinach grows well in pots, troughs and raised beds. Use a container at least 20 cm deep and keep it in sun or partial shade. For small spaces, sow a few seeds every few weeks for a steady supply.
Pick young leaves when they are large enough to use. Harvest outer leaves first, leaving the centre to keep growing. Regular picking encourages more leaves.
