River Cottage Organic Veg Seeds - Radish ‘French Breakfast’
Regular price
£2.99
Radish French Breakfast is a quick, crisp radish with a mild peppery bite. It is perfect sliced into salads, served with butter and salt, added to tacos, or eaten straight from the garden. Fast, easy and ideal for beginners.
Sow outdoors - March to September
Sowing depth - Around 1 cm
Final spacing - 2.5 cm to 5 cm
Row spacing - 10 cm to 15 cm
Germination - Usually 5 to 10 days
Sow a short row every couple of weeks for regular harvests rather than one enormous radish feast.
These measurements are only a guide. Growing is not an exact science, so do not worry if every seed is not perfectly placed.
Grower tip: Keep the soil evenly moist and harvest promptly. Radishes left in the ground for too long can become woody or overly fiery.
Radishes grow best in cool, moist soil. Water regularly to keep them crisp and stop them becoming woody. Thin seedlings if they are crowded, so roots have room to swell.
Radishes are excellent in pots, trays and window boxes. Use a container at least 15 cm deep. They are one of the easiest crops for small spaces.
Harvest when roots are small, firm and brightly coloured. This can be as soon as 4 weeks after sowing. Do not leave them too long, as they can become tough.
