Sowing

Sow indoors - February to April
Sow outdoors - March to June
Sowing depth - 3 cm to 5 cm
Seed spacing - Around 5 cm
Row spacing - Around 45 cm
Germination - Usually 7 to 14 days

Sow in batches every few weeks for a longer harvest. Provide support as soon as the young plants begin to climb.

These measurements are only a guide. Growing is not an exact science, so do not worry if every seed is not perfectly placed.

Grower tip: Water particularly well when the flowers appear and the pods begin forming. This is when the plants need moisture most.

Growing

Peas like cool weather, moisture and support. Give them pea sticks, netting or canes to climb. Water well once flowering begins. Protectyoung seedlings from birds and mice if needed.

Pots & Space

Peas can grow in large pots or troughs if given support. Use a container at least 25 cm deep and place it somewhere sunny. Dwarf or compact sowings work best in smaller spaces.

Harvest

Harvest pods when they are full but still fresh and green. Pick regularly to keep plants producing. Peas are sweetest eaten soon after picking.
