River Cottage Organic Veg Seeds - Cucumber 'Marketmore'
Regular price
£2.99
Cucumber Marketmore is a reliable outdoor cucumber with crisp, refreshing fruits and a clean flavour. It is perfect in salads, sandwiches, tzatziki, pickles and summer drinks. A proper warm weather crop with big rewards.
Sow indoors - April to May
Sow outdoors - Late May to June, after the last frost
Sowing depth - 1 cm to 2 cm
Final spacing - Around 45 cm
Germination - Usually 7 to 10 days
Sow one seed per small pot and keep warm. Plant outside once the seedlings are strong and the weather is reliably mild.
These measurements are only a guide. Growing is not an exact science, so do not worry if every seed is not perfectly placed.
Grower tip: Water the soil around the plant rather than soaking the leaves. Consistent watering helps the fruits develop evenly and reduces bitterness.
Cucumbers like warmth, sun and steady watering. Keep the soilmoist, but not waterlogged. Support plants with canes or netting if you want to grow them upwards. Feed regularly once fruits start forming.
Cucumbers can grow in large pots or grow bags. Use one plant per large pot, ideally at least 30 cm wide. Place in a sunny, sheltered spot and provide support for climbing.
Harvest when cucumbers are firm, green and around 15 cm to 20 cm long. Pick regularly to encourage more fruits. Do not leave fruits too long on the plant, as this can slow production.
We want your seeds to grow. If you follow our sowing instructions, give them a fair chance, and they still do not grow, we’ll put it right.
Eligible customers can choose either a refund for the seeds that did not grow, or replacement seeds of the same value.
