River Cottage Organic Veg Seeds - Cabbage ‘Filderkraut’

Cabbage Filderkraut is a pointed cabbage with sweet, crisp leaves and a fine texture. It is traditionally used for sauerkraut, but it is also excellent shredded into slaws, stir fried, roasted or cooked with butter.

Sow indoors - February to April
Sow outdoors - April to May
Sowing depth - Around 1 cm
Final spacing - 45 cm to 60 cm
Germination - Usually 7 to 14 days

Start in pots, trays or a seed bed. Transplant once the seedlings are strong enough to handle.

These measurements are only a guide. Growing is not an exact science, so do not worry if every seed is not perfectly placed.

Grower tip: Firm the soil well around each plant. Cabbages grow best when their roots are secure rather than wobbling around in loose ground.

Growing

Cabbages like firm, fertile soil and steady moisture. Plant deeply and firm the soil around each plant. Protect from slugs, pigeons and caterpillars. Water during dry spells and keep weed free.

Pots & Space

Cabbage is best grown in open ground or raised beds. It can grow in large pots, but each plant needs space. Use one plant per large container, ideally 30 cm to 40 cm wide and deep.

Harvest

Harvest when the head feels firm and well formed. Cut at the base with a knife. Use fresh in salads and cooking, or ferment into sauerkraut.

No-Grow No-Fee Policy

We understand that sometimes despite best efforts, wild flower seeds may not grow as expected. For cases where your seeds do not germinate or produce plants, we offer a no grow no fee refund policy.

Please contact our customer service team at info@seedrevolution.co.uk within 2 calendar months of the expected germination date to initiate a refund request under our no grow no fee policy. Our team will guide you through the process and may request additional information such as photos or proof of purchase.

Upon review and verification of your request, we will issue a refund or replacement, depending on your preference and our available stock.

Toxicity

Seeds sold through our website are for sowing purposes only and are not for human or animal consumption. Always keep out of reach of children and pets. Some species may be harmful if eaten by people, pets, horses, or livestock. Do not sow in grazing areas or where animals may eat the seeds or plants unless you have checked the species is suitable. Do not scatter seeds into rivers, ponds, streams, drains, protected habitats, public land, roadsides, nature reserves, or land you do not own or have permission to sow. Always follow the product-specific guidance, sow responsibly and follow local rules.
