Sow indoors - February to April
Sow outdoors - March to July
Sowing depth - Around 2 cm
Final spacing - Around 10 cm

Sow directly into the ground, or start in modules and transplant carefully once established.

Growing

Beetroot is reliable and fairly easy. Keep soil moist during dry spells to prevent woody roots. Thin carefully and use young thinnings as salad leaves. Avoid overcrowding for better sized roots.
Pots & Space

Beetroot grows well in pots and raised beds. Use a container at least 20 cm to 25 cm deep. For baby beetroot, plants can be grown closer together. For larger roots, give them more room.
Harvest

Harvest baby beetroot when golf ball sized, or leave to grow larger. Twist off leaves rather than cutting into the root. Beetroot can be eaten fresh, roasted, pickled or stored.
