River Cottage Organic Veg Seeds - Basil 'Sweet Genovese'

Basil Sweet Genovese is the classic Italian basil, full of sweet, aromatic flavour. It is the one you want for pesto, tomato salads, pasta, pizza and anything involving mozzarella. A kitchen hero and a windowsill favourite.

Sowing

Sow indoors - March to June
Sow outdoors - June, only when the weather is consistently warm
Sowing depth - Cover very lightly, around 0.5 cm
Final spacing - 20 cm to 25 cm
Germination - Usually 7 to 14 days

Sow thinly in small pots or trays and keep warm. Basil dislikes cold nights, so do not rush it outside.

These measurements are only a guide. Growing is not an exact science, so do not worry if every seed is not perfectly placed.

Grower tip: Pinch out the growing tip once the plant has several sets of leaves. This encourages a bushier plant with more leaves to harvest.

Growing

Basil likes warmth, light and shelter. Keep it indoors, in a greenhouse, or outside only during warm settled weather. Water regularly, but do not leave it sitting in soggy compost. Pinch out the tips to
encourage bushier growth.

Pots & Space

Basil is excellent in pots. Grow on a sunny windowsill, balcony, greenhouse or sheltered patio. Use a pot at least 15 cm wide, or grow several plants in a larger container. Keep near the kitchen for easy picking.

Harvest

Start picking once the plant is around 15 cm tall. Pick leaves from the top rather than stripping the lower leaves. Regular picking keeps the plant bushy and delays flowering.

Eligible customers can choose either a refund for the seeds that did not grow, or replacement seeds of the same value.

No-Grow No-Fee Policy

We understand that sometimes despite best efforts, wild flower seeds may not grow as expected. For cases where your seeds do not germinate or produce plants, we offer a no grow no fee refund policy.

Please contact our customer service team at info@seedrevolution.co.uk within 2 calendar months of the expected germination date to initiate a refund request under our no grow no fee policy. Our team will guide you through the process and may request additional information such as photos or proof of purchase.

Upon review and verification of your request, we will issue a refund or replacement, depending on your preference and our available stock.

Toxicity

Seeds sold through our website are for sowing purposes only and are not for human or animal consumption. Always keep out of reach of children and pets. Some species may be harmful if eaten by people, pets, horses, or livestock. Do not sow in grazing areas or where animals may eat the seeds or plants unless you have checked the species is suitable. Do not scatter seeds into rivers, ponds, streams, drains, protected habitats, public land, roadsides, nature reserves, or land you do not own or have permission to sow. Always follow the product-specific guidance, sow responsibly and follow local rules.
