Musk Mallow is soft pink meadow romance with a backbone. Delicate flowers, finely cut leaves, and the sort of floaty charm that makes a garden look like it is about to be photographed for a cottagecore magazine, but in a good way.

Its flowers have a gentle, old fashioned beauty, and the plant has a long history in gardens and herbal traditions. The name comes from its faint musky scent, because apparently even wildflowers enjoy a signature fragrance.

It is pretty, pollinator friendly, and far tougher than it looks. A floral softie with surprisingly solid revolutionary credentials.

Musk Mallow likes sunny spots, open ground, and free draining soil. It is a perennial, so give it time to settle in.

Rip - Clear weeds, grass, and debris. Rake the soil so you have a loose, open surface.

Scatter - Scatter the seed thinly across the soil. Do not sow too thickly, as the plants need room to spread.

Sow - Press the seed into the surface, or cover very lightly with soil.

When to sow - For best results sow from August to November. You can also sow from March to May.

Where to sow - Choose a sunny spot with free draining soil and low competition. Musk Mallow is excellent for meadow edges, sunny borders, banks, and relaxed wildlife planting.

After sowing, keep the soil lightly moist while the seeds get going, especially in dry weather.

Once you can see green shoots, keep big weeds and thick grass away. Do not feed it. Musk Mallow does best when it is not being pushed around by lush grass.

As a perennial, it may not give its best flower show in the first year. The first year can be about leaves, roots, and getting ready. Annoying, yes. Normal, also yes.

Musk Mallow usually flowers from June to September, bringing soft pink flowers that bees and other pollinators enjoy.

It typically grows around 30 to 80 cm tall, giving a relaxed, romantic feel without taking over the garden.

As a perennial, it can return year after year once happy. It is graceful, generous, and much tougher than its delicate petals suggest. A wildflower with main character softness and supporting actor reliability.

Yes, Musk Mallow can grow in pots, and it can look beautiful in a sunny patio container.

Use a medium to large pot, ideally at least 30 cm wide, with drainage holes. Fill it with peat free, low nutrient compost mixed with sharp sand or grit to keep it free draining. Avoid rich compost. Wildflowers are not here for the luxury spa treatment.

Scatter the seed thinly, press it in gently, and place the pot somewhere sunny. Keep lightly moist while the seeds get going. Once growing, water when the compost starts to dry out.
