Planting

When to sow
For best results, sow from March to May or August to October.

Where to sow
Sow on open, sunny, free draining soil in exposed or coastal locations. Remove existing vegetation before sowing.

How to sow
Remove existing grass and weeds to expose bare soil. Lightly rake the surface, scatter the seed evenly, then gently press or tread it into the soil. Do not bury the seed deeply.

Sowing rate
5 g per m².

Measurements and timings are only a guide. Growing is not an exact science, so do not worry if everything is not perfectly placed.

Nurture

Keep damp while seedlings establish, especially in dry or windy weather. Do not feed. Cut back after flowering once
seed has dropped and remove the cuttings.

Results

Flowering
Late spring through late summer.

Height
Approximately 20 cm to 1 metre.

What to expect
The mix should develop into a varied, wind tolerant meadow. Perennials may take more than one season to reach their full stride.

Wildlife value
The flowers provide pollen and nectar for bees, butterflies, hoverflies and other visiting insects.
