Steady Strides - Rye Grass Free Traditional Horse Pasture Mix 13.5kg (1 Acre)

  • Rye grass free paddock mix
  • 1 bag = 1 acre
Regular price £119.99

Steady Strides is a carefully balanced horse paddock mixture designed for owners looking to establish traditional, fibre-rich grazing with excellent ground cover and long-term durability.

Timothy forms the backbone of the mixture, producing a naturally palatable pasture that is slower growing than ryegrass-based leys. Meadow fescue and smooth-stalked meadowgrass contribute resilience, while strong creeping red fescue and Chewings fescue create a dense sward capable of recovering from everyday hoof traffic. A carefully selected blend of grazing herbs adds diversity and encourages a more natural pasture.

Ideal for creating new paddocks or renovating existing grazing where a traditional horse pasture is preferred over high-production agricultural grassland.

37% Timothy • 22% Strong Creeping Red Fescue • 19% Meadow Fescue • 11% Smooth Stalked Meadowgrass • 7% Chewings Fescue • 4% Grazing Herbs

Sowing

Best sowing time: March to May, or August to September

Sowing rate: 13.5 kg per acre

Sowing method: Broadcast or drill into a fine, firm seedbed

Sowing depth: No deeper than approximately 1 cm

For new paddocks, remove perennial weeds before cultivating a fine, firm seedbed. Sow evenly before rolling or firming the surface to maximise seed-to-soil contact.

When overseeding, graze or mow the existing pasture tightly, remove dead material and lightly harrow to expose areas of soil before sowing.

Keep the newly sown area consistently moist where possible during establishment.

Grazing & Care

Keep horses off newly sown ground until the grasses are firmly rooted and cannot be easily pulled from the soil.

A light topping during establishment encourages tillering, producing a thicker and more resilient pasture.

Introduce horses gradually and avoid grazing too tightly. Rotational grazing, resting worn areas and repairing gateways before poaching develops will dramatically improve pasture longevity.

Remove droppings regularly, control weeds where necessary and avoid allowing paddocks to become overgrazed, particularly during periods of slow growth.

Results

Germination typically begins within 7–21 days under warm, moist conditions, although full establishment takes considerably longer.

Steady Strides develops into a dense, traditional horse pasture with excellent ground cover, good recovery and a diverse grazing sward designed for long-term paddock performance.

Like every pasture, results depend on soil type, weather, drainage, stocking density and good grazing management.

Take life in your stride. Graze naturally. Viva la paddock.
