Corn Marigold is sunshine with a stem. Big golden flowers, bold green leaves, and the kind of energy that makes a garden look instantly more alive.

Once a common sight in cornfields, this native annual has the full farmland folklore feel. It is bright, generous, and not remotely interested in blending into the background. If Corn Marigold were at a party, it would be in a yellow jump, telling stories too loudly, and yet somehow everyone would love it.

It is easy to grow, brilliant for pollinators, and perfect if you want fast, joyful colour. A little blast of golden rebellion for bare soil and sunny spaces.

Corn Marigold needs bare soil, sunshine, and low competition. It is an annual, so it is a great choice for quick colour.

Rip - Clear weeds, grass, and debris. Rake the soil so you have a loose, open surface.

Scatter - Scatter the seed thinly across the soil.

Sow - Press the seed gently into the surface, or rake it in very lightly. Do not bury it deeply.

When to sow - For best results sow from March to May for flowers in the same year. You can also sow from August to November for stronger plants the following year.

Where to sow - Choose a sunny spot with open, free draining soil and little competition. Corn Marigold is ideal for annual wildflower patches, borders, bare ground, and sunny pots.

After sowing, keep the soil lightly moist while the seeds get going.

Once you can see green shoots, keep grass and weeds from crowding them out. Corn Marigold grows strongly in the right spot, but it still needs light and space.

Do not feed it. Too much richness can lead to leafy growth and more competition. If seedlings are crowded, gently pull a few out so the strongest ones have room to flower properly.

Corn Marigold usually flowers from June to September, bringing bold golden yellow flowers that light up a garden.

It typically grows around 30 to 60 cm tall. As an annual, it grows, flowers, sets seed, and completes its life cycle in one season.

Bees and other pollinators love the flowers, and the colour is pure summer. If your garden needs joy, Corn Marigold is not subtle, but subtle was never the point.

Yes, Corn Marigold can grow well in pots and containers.

Use a medium to large pot with drainage holes. Fill it with peat free, low nutrient compost, mixed with sharp sand or grit to keep it open and free draining. Avoid very rich compost. Wildflowers are not here for the luxury spa treatment.

Scatter the seed thinly over the surface, press it in gently, and place the pot in full sun. Keep lightly moist while the seeds get going. Once growing, water when the compost starts to dry out.
