Planting

When to sow
For best results, sow from March to May or August to October.

Where to sow
Choose open ground with sun or light partial shade. Remove existing grass and weeds to expose bare soil.

How to sow
Remove existing grass and weeds to expose bare soil. Lightly rake the surface, scatter the seed evenly, then gently press or tread it into the soil. Do not bury the seed deeply.

Sowing rate
5 g per m².

Measurements and timings are only a guide. Growing is not an exact science, so do not worry if everything is not perfectly placed.

Nurture

Keep damp while the seed germinates. Remove strong weeds and do not feed. Cut back after flowering once seed has fallen, then remove the cuttings.

Results

Flowering
Late spring through summer.

Height
Approximately 20 cm to 1 metre.

What to expect
Annuals can provide earlier colour, while perennial flowers and grasses establish the longer term meadow. The balance will change naturally from year to year.

Wildlife value
The flowers provide pollen and nectar for bees, butterflies, hoverflies and other visiting insects.

No Grow, No Fee

We want your seeds to grow. If you follow our sowing instructions, give them a fair chance, and they still do not grow, we’ll put it right.

Eligible customers can choose either a refund for the seeds that did not grow, or replacement seeds of the same value.
