Planting

When to sow: March to May, or August to October

Position: Partial shade or dappled sunlight

Soil: Bare soil that is not permanently waterlogged

Clear away grass, weeds and fallen leaves. Rake the soil, scatter the seeds evenly and press them gently into the surface.

Bloom or Bust tolerates less light than our other mixes, but it still needs some natural daylight. Permanent deep shade beneath dense trees or structures will be difficult.
Nurture

Keep the soil damp during germination, but avoid leaving it waterlogged.

Remove fallen leaves and aggressive weeds so the young plants are not smothered. Do not add fertiliser.
Pots

Yes, this mix can be grown in pots.

Use one packet per pot or container. Choose a wide pot with drainage holes and fill it with low nutrient, free draining compost.

Scatter the seed across the surface, press it in gently and keep the compost damp while the plants establish. Place the pot in partial shade or dappled light rather than complete darkness.
Results

Flowering can begin from late spring and continue through summer, although shaded plants may develop more slowly than those growing in full sun.

The mix contains annual and perennial species, so the display will change as the planting matures. Red campion, self heal, meadowsweet and hedge bedstraw provide longer term meadow interest.

Expect a varied display from low growing self heal to taller species such as chicory and meadowsweet.
